IWN Blizzard Watch
IowaWeatherNow.net has issued a BLIZZARD WATCH for areas shaded above.
Date: 2/22/19 at 8:55am CST
Timing: Effective now for Saturday night through Sunday night….
Discussion: A upper level low with a banding of convergence, upper divergence and mid-level frontogenesis will support a narrow area of heavy snow from west to north central Iowa. The low will rapidly deepen Saturday night dropping 10-20 millibars in around a 24 hour period. The deepening of this low will lead to a narrow banding of 9-12″+ of snow and high snowfall rates. Northwest winds will gust 40-60 MPH in the watch area Saturday night into much of Sunday. Blizzard conditions will be possible to likely in many areas. In addition to the snow and strong winds, strong mid-level lapse rates will make conditions favorable for thundersnow.
